Past Elective Course

A weeklong 3-credit graduate-level course designed for high school and community college theatre educators, covering the use of automated, multi-parameter lighting systems for theatrical productions:

  • Learn the pros and cons of automated/multi-parameter lighting equipment
  • Find out how a single automated light can take the place of other conventional inventory
  • Discover how to use the different parameters of lighting (color mixing, templates, movement, beam, beam shaping, and intensity) together and separately for environmental and special effects
  • Develop basic programming skills for automated lighting
  • Discuss how to make the artistic choices necessary to tell the story of a play through lighting
  • Get a glimpse into the future of lighting technology to share with your students
  • Experiment with adapting a variety of lighting systems to build cues for a production
  • Explore the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's lighting systems, booth and light shop
  • Attend Oregon Shakespeare Festival productions of The Music Man and Equivocation
  • Come away with tricks of the trade you can use in your school to get your console to work with automated lights
