Welcome, Southern Oregon University Veterans and Dependents!

The Veterans Resource Office assists Veterans and their families in pursuing their educational, professional, and vocational objectives. The VRO serves as a liaison between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the university to certify enrollment, provide information on Veteran benefits, and monitor students’ degree plans and academic progress.

Veterans and their dependents may be eligible to receive Educational Benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the Oregon National Guard Offices. This online information should answer your questions when coming to SOU, as well as how to apply for Educational Benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Located on the SOU Ashland Campus, the Veterans Resource Office works closely with students to help with the VA Education process, among many other duties. If your questions are not answered here, please contact any of the Veterans representatives at the Veterans Resource Office at 541-552-7102. Also, feel free to stop by and visit, a VRO staff member is available Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Commuter Resource Center on the main floor of the Stevenson Union. We have a space dedicated as a meeting and study space for Veterans. Our friendly and knowledgeable student staff will assist you in interpreting your benefits and provide both local and campus resources.

The Veterans Resource Office is also home to the Student Veterans Association, the on-campus Veterans Club. Currently the SVA has more than 35 student-veterans and military supporters who work closely with our community groups and school officials on behalf of all student veterans.

Veterans must request VA certification each term (including summer sessions). Contact the SOU Veterans Resource Office in the Commuter Resource Center (Second floor of Stevenson Union) for upcoming terms: 541-552-7102 or vro@sou.edu. They will certify your enrollment and forward the request to the regional VA Office in Muskogee, Oklahoma for processing. The VA determines eligibility for Educational Benefits in all cases.

For any other questions, please contact Associate Director of Student Life, janelle wilson, at 541-552-8328 or wilsonjan@sou.edu
