The SOU Computer Science department is excited to host local business speakers presenting new and innovative tech topics during lunchtime forums, throughout the academic year. *Free pizza provided by the CS Department.*

TECH WORKSHOP SERIES

Tech Workshops at SOU are conducted by representatives from local tech businesses who introduce students to open-source software used in their businesses. Students are then able to test-drive the software, create their own variations, and present their creations to the group. 

  • Thursday, 3:30-5:30 pm (2nd Thursday of each month)

Tech Workshop: 
Gaming Careers - Art meets Technology 

John Williams brings a long career working with Sony Playstation Game development. 

Experience what it is like to actually develop a game using online software. Practice techniques you learned in the Agile Development Tech Workshop to form ad hoc teams with others to produce a game app.

Wayne Iba

Tech TALK: 
Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Iba currently teaches a course in AI at Southern Oregon University. Wayne earned his Ph.D. in Information and Computer Science focusing on machine learning at U.C. Irvine in 1991. His background includes a stint as a Research Scientist in the Artificial Intelligence group at NASA Ames Research Center and on the Automated Fingerprint Identification System operated by the FBI'/s Criminal Justice Information Services. He also served multiple companies in the broader Silicon Valley area as an independent consultant and as a Senior Research Scientist at Kanisa, Inc., in Cupertino, CA.
