Welcome to Southern Oregon University. My name is David Parker and I am the Business Degree Completion Program Coordinator, as well as a graduate of the Degree Completion Program here at SOU. Like many of you, I began my academic career late in life.
I remember sitting in my first class at Rogue Community College wondering what in the world I was doing there. While I was having those thoughts, a fellow student was sharing with the class about his life and why he was going back to school. He told the class that he was not sure if he could do all the work because it had been three years since he graduated high school. I turned to him and asked his age. After he answered, I shared with him and the rest of the class that I had not been in school since before he was born. I have sat in many classrooms since that day and have taken my share of online classes along the way.
While attending RCC, I earned an Associates of Science degree and then transferred to SOU where I completed both a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). In the summer of 2009, I had both the privilege and honor of representing Southern Oregon University as an exchange student at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) in Saarbrucken, Germany. At present, I am working on a doctorate degree at Grand Canyon University.
My educational journey has been life changing and I am a better person for taking the journey.

Welcome to Southern OregonUniversity. My name is Dr. Joan McBee, and I am the coordinator of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Management Program. I am also an Associate Professor in the School of Business. If you decide to join the program, you will not only have me as your advisor, but you’ll probably have me as an instructor as well.
Before coming to SOU, I taught for five years at SouthwesternOregonCommunity College in CoosBay. I have also spent two years teaching in the business department at RogueCommunity College. That community college experience gave me empathy toward transfer students and the challenges they experience. As a result, I designed and received approval for the first Bachelor of Applied Science program in the State of Oregon helping students who earn trade degrees to transfer.
My education includes a BS degree (1984) and an MBA degree (1991) in Business Administration from Southern Oregon State College. I earned a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from Argosy University in Orange, California in 2007. My dissertation covered factors leading to persistence of the nontraditional student in the pursuit of their bachelor’s degree. Prior to teaching, I sold mutual funds and real estate investments, financed commercial loans, and worked as a title officer and marketing representative for a title and escrow company.
I currently live in Shady Cove with my husband. We have seven grown children and five grandsons. My hobbies include running and fishing.
