Welcome to the ESOL Endorsement web site!

ESOL endorsed teachers are in great demand in Oregon schools and throughout the nation. This is especially important with the increased number of students who bring a non-English language background to school. You do not have to be proficient in Spanish (or another second language) in order to qualify for this endorsement. In fact, the majority of the teachers who earn this endorsement are monolingual English speakers. However, we are highly motivated to recruit and support native and native-like speakers of Spanish, as well as Native Americans, and other under-represented ethnic groups. Regardless of your language background, the ESOL Endorsement Program will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be successful in K-12 ESOL program settings.

The School of Education at Southern Oregon University (SOU) offers the ESOL Endorsement as an add-on program or as an area of specialization within a Master’s in Education degree program. Regardless of where you are in your career path, this endorsement can be adapted to meet your individual needs.

I hope that you will find all of the information you need about the ESOL Endorsement Program at this web site. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the ESOL Program Advisor, Dr. Gerald McCain (552-6934).
