Hello! My name is Mayra Aguilar. I am currently a junior at SOU. Due to being from out of state and a first generation Hispanic/Latinx student, I joined the FYMP in hopes of being able to branch out on campus and the Ashland community. I took on a new role of FYMP Coordinator in hopes of helping others reach their fullest potential to strive in college and other opportunities that might come their way. I am studying Communication Studies with an emphasis in Nonprofit Management and Human Resources as an Accelerated Baccalaureate Program Student. I am excited for all of you to join FYMP to help you strive and make your first year as smooth as possible. I might be a SOU Cheerleader for athletics, but I am also a cheerleader here to cheer you on for your first year and new opportunities to come.

Aloha! My name is Shanztyn Keakaokalani Nihipali, born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawai’i. I originate from a family with mixed ancestry. My senior year of high school had a significant impact on why I am here at Southern Oregon University; it was heavily influenced to take a step towards college. As a first generation college student, moving to Oregon to further my education was the ultimate decision that I have made for myself. I am pleased to be here. My time thus far at Southern Oregon University has given me lots of opportunities to grow through leadership positions in various organizations throughout campus. I am a third-year student Majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Hospitality and Tourism Management. I am delighted to be on your FYMP coordinating team, in hopes to help you all form an experience as great as mine! I look forward to being a part of your SOU experience! Let’s make it the BEST time!
