Residence Halls
Residence Halls remain locked 24-hours a day. Resident Assistants are on duty between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to periodically check the hall and provide support to residents as needed. Housing staff are trained to assist with emergencies, crisis intervention, and to communicate with the security officers, police, fire, emergency medical, or other public services. There are also live-in Professional staff who are on call 24/7.
Residence halls are not open to the general public. Residence halls are closed and locked during Winter Break, however Housing offers Winter Break Housing. During Thanksgiving and Spring breaks, the halls will remain open for students to come and go as they need. Residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests, and will be responsible for any conduct issues that the guest is found responsible for.
Staff will confront unaccompanied people who are not guests of a resident, and they will be asked to leave and escorted out of the building if necessary. Residents are encouraged to report the presence of strangers or suspicious behavior to the staff or the Campus Public Safety Office. Community meetings are conducted quarterly to review community standards, which may include safety and security concerns. Additionally, hall or floor meetings are convened whenever special needs or concerns arise.
The Housing Office will accommodate a student's request to be reassigned to another residence hall for reasons of improving their personal safety. Such requests are given the highest priority.
