A unique certificate for students with a baccalaureate degree who wish to complete coursework to prepare for certification examinations in accounting.
The Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting is for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree in any area but want to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or work in accounting. This certificate is unique in that it is reserved for graduates, but it does not require any graduate coursework nor does it confer a degree.
Business students working toward a Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting will be instructed in the foundations of Accounting. Students will be thoroughly prepared for business, including real world experiences, an interactive class environment, one-on-one comprehensive professional instruction and guidance. The certificate in accounting program has been developed for a variety of career objectives including the CPA, CMA, and government and industrial accounting.
To be admitted to the program, students must hold a baccalaureate degree, be admitted to SOU, and have completed Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. Financial aid is not available for this program.
Students working toward the Post-Bac Certificate in Accounting will gain skills in auditing, taxation, law, finance, and more. The State Boards of Accountancy sets the requirements for the Uniform CPA Exam, which generally exceed the 48 credits earned in the Certificate. Please check with your state board for examination requirements.
The skills and knowledge gained during the student’s experience in the certificate program will help them prepare for a career in accounting. Accountants are in high demand nationally and regionally with double-digit growth in the next decade. .
Requirements for Admission*
To be admitted to the Accounting Certificate program, students must:
Hold a baccalaureate degree
Be admitted to Southern Oregon University as a Post-Baccalaureate student. Post-Bacc admission information may be found at: http://www.sou.edu/admissions/graduate/ Indicate on the application that you are seeking the Post-Bacc Certificate in Accounting and will be taking courses at the undergraduate level only. You must submit official transcripts of all college credits to Admissions.
Submit an applicationfor admission to the certificate program and unofficial transcripts of all college credits to Professor Al Case. Have completed the following courses or equivalents: BA 211 Accounting Information I (Financial Accounting) and BA 213 Accounting Information II (Managerial Accounting).
*Students who do not meet all of the admission requirements may attach a letter of petition to their applications.
