Session 2: July 11 - July 30
COVID-19's Impact on the 2020 Summer Language Institute
Our primary concern at SOU is the preservation of the health and safety of students, staff, instructors, and their families, while upholding our commitment to the academic progress of our students. SOU's Emergency Response Team has been monitoring this developing situation and is in constant communication with state and local health authorities, in order to provide updates and appropriate guidelines to our campus. The SLI directors have also been staying connected with our contacts at our sister universities.
With this in mind, and in accordance with Oregon's recent state mandate regarding study abroad, we will unfortunately not be holding courses abroad this summer. We are instead moving to remote instruction for summer 2020, and plan to return to Angers and Guanajuato in 2021.
We are currently modifying our courses for remote delivery, in order for students to continue and/or complete their degree as planned, and will update our course schedules and syllabi accordingly on our web pages.
We are also adjusting this year's deadlines for tuition payment and cancellation. We will not require a tuition deposit, and will instead simply have payment due on May 8th. Should it become necessary for one to cancel after making a payment, we will also refund 100% of tuition until May 31st, upon receipt of notification by that date.
Online courses will serve as a bridge for students to continue their progress in the program, and may in fact provide a different opportunity for more educators to experience SLI courses. Whether you are a current student, a new applicant, or interested in our program, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions or require any assistance modifying your degree plan in these circumstances.
We are truly grateful to all of our amazing students and faculty for their patience, compassion, and understanding at this unprecedented time. We look forward to staying connected and seeing you soon, whether virtually this summer, or in person when we reunite abroad in 2021. In the meantime, we extend our sincere best to you and your families, friends, and colleagues as we weather these circumstances together.
