Thank you for your interest in the Master in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at SOU. We hope the information we have provided in this section about our application processes will help you become a more informed applicant for our program.
Application deadline is February 1st every year. The CMHC program only accepts students once a year; there is no rolling admission. Student acceptance letters are mailed by late March and the cohort will begin classes in the Fall term.

For international students:
International students do NOT need to take the GRE. Only the TOEFL test is required for acceptance.
Applicants MUST also complete a separate form to become a Southern Oregon University graduate student in addition to the CMHC application. See SOU Admissions.
The GRE typical required scores on the verbal and quantitative sections should be 300 combined, the analytical writing section should have a minimum score of 3.0. Test scores can be accepted within 5 years of the test date. GRE (http://www.ets.org/gre) SOU GRE school #4702.

The CMHC program accepts 22 students every year. A typical year averages 65 applications. In 2012 the average undergraduate overall GPA was 3.44 with a range of 2.60 to 4.03. The average GRE scores were verbal old 549, new 152, quantitative old 595, new 179, and analytical writing 4.00. Students applying were 13 males and 58 females with a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.
The CMHC program is proud to be designated as a Western Regional Graduate Program, helping our students afford the high cost of out-of-state tuition. Select out-of-state students from the other 14 western states* pay in-state graduate tuition. The CMHC faculty award this financial aid to increase diversity and recognize academic excellence. If you are an out-of-state student and would like to be considered for a WRGP award, submit a 300 word essay that addresses how you meet one or both of the selection criteria (diversity and/or academic excellence).
