Hello Everyone:

We continue to update the website and we have remedied the technical issues!

There are several documents now available for enrollment and information. Please visit each category on the left of this screen. The calendar below invites any who wish to visit the program.

As we get underway we will offer a free 'day' for those interested but not yet enrolled.

As you scroll down this page there is Health Protocol information as to how we will manage COVID requirements. If you have any other questions please contact the school or email us.

We hope you are all safe.

Community Preschool logoCOVID-19 Updates:

September 7

Dear Families and loved ones:

The preschool is working hard with plans now in motion for opening on September 23, 2020!

That is right! The Community Preschool at SOU will open!

Please continue to check the web site as updates are being made continually. We are grateful for your interest and patience.

To schedule a visit please follow this link: Calendar

2020-2021: COVID restrictions requires that children be in ‘stable’ groups. A stable group is not more than 20 per session, including children plus the adults scheduled on that day. We will be making adjustments as we go along. We ask for your patience during this time. We may not be able to provide the exact days that you wish. Please visit Tuition Schedule on this site for tuition and schedule options.

For the Health and Safety guidelines that we will be using at the preschool please follow this link.

I am grateful to Maureen who has led this program for so many years. She is a dear friend and colleague. I am grateful to Julie who has been a wonderful shepherd as I navigate this new territory. I appreciate all of your goodwill at this time.

Be well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Community Preschool at SOU is located on the beautiful campus of Southern Oregon University in the Education/Psychology Building.  The classroom has three spacious areas for active exploratory play and quiet time. The indoor space opens to an expansive, shaded outdoor environment inviting children to run, climb, swing and enjoy the outdoors.

Children are encouraged to explore their environment with their own unique sense of wonder. We support the most current thinking on developmentally appropriate practices to promote a young child's optimal learning and development.

There are many advantages to being located on the SOU campus. We have an abundance of Early Childhood and Elementary Education majors who participate in classroom activities as part of their practicum or work-study hours. This experience teaches undergraduate students about young children through observation and classroom interaction. Our goal is to partner with parents and families to create a community of learning and an understanding of developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education.

The staff comprises master teachers providing oversight for the student and parent volunteers. This provides a low student-to-adult ratio and an enriching, stimulating environment for your child. Class size is limited to 16 children to ensure personalized attention for each child. Childre will enjoy both child-initiated and teacher facilitate activities including stories, music and movement.

We serve children 3-5 years of age and are open to members of the community, SOU faculty and staff. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.
