The Social Science Division offers major specific scholarships through the Southern Oregon Scholarship Application (SOSA). The SOSA is due each year by March 15. Students can apply for these scholarships through the SOSA and will be awarded for the following academic year. Visit the SOSA website for the application and more information.

Criminology & Criminal Justice
Brian Campbell Memorial ScholarshipThis scholarship honors the memory of Brian Campbell, a former SOU Criminology student.
- Must be majoring in criminology or registered as a pre-criminology student.
- Must not have earned more than 89 credits at the time of the award.
- Must be a full time student and remain so for the period of the scholarship.
- Award will be based on, but not limited to, the student’s potential contribution to the Criminal Justice field.
- Academic excellence, GPA, extra-curricular activities and difficulty of work will be considered.

The Ellis H. Bremer Memorial Scholarship Award
This scholarship awards outstanding student scholars at Southern Oregon University in the memory of Ellis H. Bremer.
- Must be pursuing a degree granted by Southern Oregon University and be a Criminology or Philosophy major.
- Must be an entering freshman and a full-time student.
- Must have a minimum 3.25 GPA.

Economics
Avista Scholars Scholarship
Intended to promote diversity on campus, important considerations for this scholarship will include ethnic and cultural background.
- Must be majoring in one of the following areas of study: accounting, biology/chemistry, business, communications, computer science/technology, economics, environmental science, engineering, mathematics, natural resources, political science, statistics, or technology.
- Must be willing to release demographic information.
- Must be a full-time student of Southern Oregon University and must remain so during the period covered by the scholarship.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA and maintain it for the duration of the scholarship.
- Must be working toward a first undergraduate degree or certification.
- Financial need will be of secondary consideration.

History & Political Science
Anna B. Fisher History Scholarship
To provide hands-on experience in learning about the historical significance of Jacksonville to Southern Oregon and the Rogue Valley.
- Must be a senior during the period covered by the award.
- Must be a history major at Southern Oregon University.
- Preference will be given to an Oregon resident.
- Financial need may be considered.
- Preference for recipient to complete at least 10 hours of work at the Jacksonville Museum in Jacksonville, Oregon, during the term of the award.

Jim and Harriet Johnston Rogue Credit Union Scholarship
To assist members of Rogue Credit Union or their immediate families in attending Southern Oregon University.
- Must have a continuous, current account with Rogue Credit Union, or be a member of a family with a continuous, current account. The account must have been active for the past 2 years by date of application deadline.
- Must have enrolled at SOU as an entering freshman from a Jackson County, Oregon High School or through a GED taken in Jackson County, Oregon
- Non-Jackson County, Oregon high school graduates and/or GED students must have resided continuously in Jackson County, Oregon for the past 2 years and intend to remain in the area.
- Must be an undergraduate with at least one more year to complete at the time of application. (Any student planning to enroll in education that has attained at least senior standing would be eligible to apply and to be considered.)
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25
- Must be a full time student
- Must demonstrate a past history of positive community and/or school involvement

Karen Gernant Endowed World History Scholarship
To help Southern Oregon University history students fulfill their educational goals.
- Must be a history major at SOU with coursework in Asian or Latin American History.
- Scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit.
- Recipient must have and maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA.
- Applicants must have completed 12 lower division history credits, and four credits in Asian or Latin American History. At the time of application, the student may be enrolled in the last four of the aforementioned credits.

Nancy Peterson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
To encourage SOU women to study Political Science and to seek careers in politics/public service.
- Must be a female student of junior or senior standing.
- Must be majoring in political science with a strong interest in public service in a political capacity.
- Must be a full time student and remain so during the period of the award.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Preference will be given to students who are applying for internships in the State legislature, or with the Governor’s office in Salem, or who are applying for internships in Washington DC.
- Students who wish to work for a state agency, a political party, or a community service organization are also urged to apply.

Psychology
Jack D. Thorsen Memorial Endowed Scholarship
To provide financial assistance to Education or Psychology majors at Southern Oregon University.
- Must be an Education or Psychology major.
- Must be of at least senior standing.
- Open to both full and part time students.
- Must have completed 15 quarter hours of psychology courses including at least 6 quarter hours at 300 level or above.
- Must demonstrate dedication to the human services field through past volunteer and/or job-related activities.
- Neither GPA nor financial need should be sole criteria for selecting recipient(s). However, financial need should be used in close decisions.

To provide scholarships for graduate students majoring in Psychology at Southern Oregon University.
- Must be a full time student majoring in Psychology
