Welcome to the School of Education

Whether you are just exploring the idea of being a teacher in early childhood or K-12, a seasoned veteran seeking advanced professional development or licensure, or someone interested in "educating" outside of a classroom setting, the School of Education at Southern Oregon University offers several programs to meet the educational needs of our changing society. From undergraduate and graduate degrees in education to initial licensure, adding an endorsement, or even pursuing an administrative license, we have a program that's right for you. We invite you to follow the Programs link to begin your investigation.

SOU is committed to partnerships with regional school districts and to supporting access to continuing education and educator preparation for rural and remote communities.

SOU's teacher and administrator licensure programs are nationally accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and accredited by the State of Oregon's Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).

The SOU Education Department has strong partnerships with the 10 school districts in our three county region as well as the Southern Oregon Education Service District. We also maintain partnerships with our higher education colleagues at schools including Rogue Community College, Klamath Community College, and Eastern Oregon University, In addition, we are active in the Pacific Circle Consortium and the Civics Learning Project.

Education faculty are leaders in their fields. They publish internationally recognized research in the areas of holistic education, early childhood education, rural education, educational leadership, adult learning, and autism research among other important topics. They have created robust international partnerships with schools and universities in Thailand, Scotland, Ireland, and Malawi. We encourage our students to think of education as a global endeavor and to learn from our international colleagues.
