Patricia Kyle, Ph.D., draws from extensive experience as a university professor, licensed professional counselor, school psychologist, school counselor, and classroom teacher to give a practical and experiential focus to her psychology and counseling classes at SOU. She has researched and written extensively about positive behavior change strategies for teachers and for counselors and psychologists to use as consultation tools in their work with teachers and parents. She is the co-author of “Opportunities and Options in Classroom Management” and “Win-Win Discipline” as well as being a contributor to numerous other books. She specializes in children, adolescents and families.

Before joining the SOU psychology faculty, Patricia was an associate professor of Counseling and School Psychology at the University of Idaho. Before that she was an associate professor at Boise State University in behavior management. Previously she coordinated the Mental Health Counseling Master’s program at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Patricia is very active in professional counseling organizations. She has served as the president of the Western Region of the American Counseling Association and as the president of the Oregon and Idaho Counseling Associations and as the president of the Oregon and Idaho Associations for Counselor Education and Supervision. She has conducted numersous refereed presentations at professional conferences.

Patricia loves nature, so Southern Oregon is just the place for her. Patricia is also crazy about Alaska. She and her husband spend time there in the summer fishing for red salmon and relaxing on their piece of a wilderness island - her idea of great fun! She loves to play bridge and is passionate about theater, especially Shakespeare.
