National and Regional Opportunities
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
PNNL hires hundreds of undergraduate and graduate student interns each year through a variety of internship programs:
- Community College Internships and Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships—sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science’s Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists program—provide technical training and research experiences alongside PNNL scientists and engineers. Opportunities also include the Office of Science Graduate Student Research program, and the Visiting Faculty Program.
- PNNL Business Interns are undergraduate students who work with professional staff supporting PNNL’s management and operations systems.
- The National Security Internship Program allows undergraduate and graduate students to work in various scientific fields related to national security.
- Project Interns explore research and technology career options while gaining practical training. There are internships available for undergraduate and graduate students.
- PNNL and the University of Maryland (UMD) offer internships to undergraduate and graduate students at the Joint Global Change Research Institute on UMD’s campus in College Park, Maryland. Interns work with scientists developing models of the Earth system and linkages between socioeconomic and natural systems.
- The PNNL Safeguards Internship Program hires undergraduate and graduate students with backgrounds in public policy and science and engineering fields and an interest in nuclear power and nonproliferation. Policy students gain greater familiarity with technical dimensions of nuclear energy and nonproliferation, while science and engineering students gain insight into policy dimensions of work in nuclear fields.
- The no-cost Radiation Detection for Nuclear Security Summer School is perfect for students enrolled in graduate programs in fields relevant to radiation detection such as nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, and high-energy physics.
- The Minority Serving Institution Partnership Program for the National Nuclear Security Administration is a research-based experience for students who are traditionally underserved in STEM fields and have career interests aligned with NNSA’s mission to strengthen the nation through nuclear security.

NASA Internships and Fellowships
NASA internships and fellowships leverage NASA’s unique missions and programs to enhance and increase the capability, diversity and size of the nation’s future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce. Internships are available from high school to graduate level. Internships provide students with the opportunity to participate in either research or other experiential learning, under the guidance of a mentor at NASA.

Job Summary
Research!America is offering a paid, temporary Science Communications internship with some telework opportunity possible. Interns assist the organization in advancing its mission and objectives. Internships are typically three-month full-time appointments (start and end dates are flexible).
Duties
- Assist with basic website content updates
- Assist with content for blog posts, web and social media accounts
- Assist with preparations for speaking engagements
- Write, proofread, fact-check, and edit articles, press materials, and emails to Research!America members
- Contribute to reports and analysis of media coverage
- Contribute to the analysis of survey data
- Participate in communications strategy and program planning meetings
- Provide on-site support at Capitol Hill briefings, programs, and other events
- Other projects as assigned
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a strong academic background, excellent writing and editing skills, and an interest in medical and health research and related policy issues. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and Google Docs is required; experience with web content management systems, blog software, graphic design (Canva) and social media is strongly preferred.
Graduate students, PhD candidates, or post-doctoral researchers with science, health, communications, public policy, or related degree or degree program are preferred.
Compensation
A monthly stipend of $2,600 will be provided.

Smithsonian Gardens provides an exceptionally well-rounded array of experiences in its intern program thanks to the wide diversity of services it offers to the Smithsonian, the world's largest museum complex. We accept current and recently graduated undergraduate and graduate students studying horticulture, landscape architecture, museum studies, or other related fields. Selection is based on both an evaluation of the applicant’s application and available positions.

Providence School Outreach Program
The Providence School Outreach Department offers paid internships for college seniors each quarter. Undergraduate seniors from any major are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to first generational college students (parents/guardians have not earned a Bachelor’s degree).
Internships are offered in a variety of non-clinical roles to give students experience in different Providence departments. Examples of departments include: Providence Brain and Spine Institute, Finance, Emergency Management, Operational Excellence, School Outreach, Communications, New Patient Call Center, Physical Therapy, and more!

Southern Oregon Orthopedics provides surgical care for injuries and illnesses that affect the spine, shoulders, knees, feet, ankles, hips, wrists and hands. Every surgeon in our practice has been fellowship-trained, which is the very highest level of clinical achievement for a practicing orthopedic surgeon. We perform complex spine surgery, arthroscopic surgery, hand and wrist surgery, as well as hip, knee and shoulder reconstruction and replacement surgery. Our surgeons serve as clinical medical directors for the Joint Replacement Center at Rogue Regional Medical Center and as co-medical directors of the Providence Spine Institute. We are currently the only surgical practice in Southern Oregon offering reverse shoulder replacement arthroplasty. Our surgeons are also actively involved in clinical trials pioneering new techniques in minimally-invasive spine surgeries. For your convenience, we have an on-site ACR-accredited MRI unit, two diagnostic x-ray suites and a state of the art mobile C-arm.
