Can I checkout equipment from IT? For how long?
I.T. has limited assets for student checkout. This includes Chromebooks, wired headsets, and webcams. Please complete the Student Loaner Equipment Form if you need any of these assets. Assets are checked out on a term-by-term basis. To request an extension, please fill out the Student Loaner Equipmet Extension Form.
Will the library allow us to take home chromebooks?
The Hannon Library does offer Chromebooks as loaners to students. However, they have a limited supply. They can be checked out for a 72 hour period and are subject to "Overdue" fees. If the laptop is damaged, lost, or stolen, then the overdue fee will be the full cost of the Chromebook. Please complete the Student Technology Needs Survey
Are labs going to be open?
At this time, SOU is planning on keeping some labs available to students. I.T. is working with Facilities Management on implementing social distancing and cleanliness.
What if I have a class that uses a Mac lab?
I.T. is investigating options for delivering Mac-dependent courses online. This will include ensuring that properly configured Mac workstations will be available in open labs. Please check back here and in your email for updates on this topic.
Is the Help Desk going to be open?
The Help Desk will remain open and can be reached by dialing 541-552-6900 or emailing helpdesk@sou.edu.
Will Help Desk in the halls still be happening?
No, Help Desk in the Halls has been discontinued indefinitely in both the SU and the Hawk, but the Main Help Desk Remains open as usual.
What are the hardware, software and connectivity requirements for remote learning?
You will need internet access and a computer running an updated, currently supported operating system. Your device needs to have a video camera and a microphone to enable videoconferencing.
What is Virtual Lab?
Virtual Lab allows students access to many of the needed programs and applications they commonly use. Please see the Student Computing Guide for further information.
Will I be able to continue to use the GreenPrint Stations on campus?
IT will maintain the usability of the GreenPrint stations in Shasta, McLaughlin, Greensprings, Madrone, and Hannon Library.
Is the Library open for students?
Yes, Hannon Library remains open to registered students and has a Commons area and Lab computers available with printing service. Hannon Library is not open to the general public until further notice.
I don't have internet access, are there any available options to access the internet?
SOU is partnering with three other regional schools that participate in the Southern Oregon Higher Education Consortium (SOHEC) to provide you with additional access points around the area. The member schools, SOU (Ashland and Medford), Rogue Community College (Medford), OIT (Klamath Falls, Wilsonville) and Klamath Community College (Klamath Falls). More information here.

I tried using Zoom but have had connection issues, is something broken?
Using Zoom is dependent on your internet connection speed. If you have trouble, you can try disabling the video portion from your end as a means for reducing bandwidth needed. Zoom is also experiencing huge increases in traffic.
My recorded Zoom videos are taking a long time to be processed/available. What gives?
Zoom and Google are both experiencing huge increases in demand.
I'm a student who has issues with technical specifications and/or Internet access. What do I do?

My internet connection isn’t fast enough for working, teaching or learning remotely, what can I do?
Please visit the I.T. site to explore options. This information is subject to change. I.T. will try to keep it up to date. The best bet will be to check the providers in your area for discounts or fee waivers.
