Employees requesting additional time off for religious observations should arrange for reasonable accommodation through their supervisor or contact Human Resources for assistance.
Winter Break (no instruction/classes and the university is open): December 14 through January 5 and faculty continue to fulfill their academic responsibilities as appropriate.
Special Day Classified Staff: Each July 1, full-time classified staff receive 8 hours of Special Day leave to use by June 30 of the fiscal year it is earned or it is forfeited. The time is subject to supervisor approval, must be designated on the official leave record (Workday), and is prorated for part-time employees.
Special Day Unclassified Staff: Unclassified administrative staff may observe a Special Day of leave to use between and including, the day before Thanksgiving and January 31 or it is forfeited. The time is subject to supervisor approval, must be designated on the official leave record (Workday), and is prorated for part-time employees.
Although the university is generally closed on designated paid holidays, individual departments may find it necessary to require employees to work based on operational needs. Below are helpful reminders if that occurs:
- Unclassified administrative staff working less than .50 fte, temporary represented classified staff, and student employees are not eligible for holiday pay. When directed and scheduled to work on a holiday, they receive pay at their normal hourly rate.
- When a classified employee is directed and scheduled to work on a holiday, they will also receive either compensatory time off or pay at the rate of time and one-half.
- When an unclassified administrative non-exempt staff on a .50 fte or greater appointment is directed and scheduled to work on a holiday, they will also receive pay at the rate of time and one-half.
