Registration Information
Registration Information First Time or Returning Students - Follow the link to the online portal to register and pay following steps listed in the tabs at the bottom of this page. Click here to view our ASC Registration Instructions and Policies. ASC is 1/4 of the current SOU tuition rate and is exempt from student fees. For 2023-24, the cost is $50 per credit ($200 for a 4-credit course). Maximum 20 credits per registration period. If your family income qualifies for the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch program, and you have filed the required paperwork with your school, please see important details about the ASC tuition waiver or your district scholarships in the payment instructions below. Most ASC courses are aligned with two 4-credit SOU courses. This means you will register and pay for credit twice during the school year. This is registration for two different course credits (ie. year-long highschool Precalulus course = MTH111 in the fall, and MTH112 in the winter) When it is time to register for the second section of your credits, your instructor will provide you with the information. Please check with your high school instructor to find out when to register for the second section of credits available for your course. The Course Reference Number (CRN) and title for your ASC credit is available from your high school instructor. The list is also available in the online registration form under the "Sections" tab. Please note: Only students who are currently taking the listed class from the listed instructor are eligible to register for the credit. Students are responsible to register themselves accurately and by the deadline. There are no refunds beyond the deadline listed in the registration flyer. If you select a class that has lab credits, you must also select that lab from the "Labs" tab. We will complete your registration after you submit your registration form with full payment (or scholarship/waiver rate confirmation from your school). If you have a partial or full scholarship from your school or other organization, you will select "Scholarship" on the "Payment" tab and name the organization we will contact for payment. For partial scholarships and waiver use, once we confirm your scholarship/waiver eligibility, we will follow up with you at the email address listed in your profile to request payment for any remaining balance due. This balance due will come with a deadline that must be honored or we will have to cancel your registration. Please note we are unable to offer retroactive registration for past terms or school years. You may only register for a class within the designated registration period for that section of credits. Only students currently taking the listed class with the listed instructor are elgible to register for the credit.
First Time Students
Returning Students If you have previously registered for ASC credits, you already have a profile and password. You will click the "Non-SOU Login" button on the login screen. Please contact us if you have issues logging in. Once you are logged in, the system will take you to the ASC registration page. ASC students receive a significant tuition reduction for these SOU credits. The tuition for an ASC course is 1/4 of the cost of regular tuition and is exempt from student fees. The 2023-24 tuition rate is $50 per credit hour ($200 for a four credit class). Considering that a 2023-24 state-funded tuition can be over $1,300 per four credit class, ASC offers substantial opportunity for savings! Available to Income-Qualifying students whose credits are not being paid for by other scholarships: Students (not attending Medford School District) whose family meets the Income Guidelines for the Federal Free and Reduced Meals Program (see chart below) and who have submitted the appropriate paperwork with their school may register online for ONE course per term (including a lab section if applicable) at the further discounted rate of $50 total. SOU will contact your school to confirm your eligibility before we register you. So, if you haven't already filed the appropriate paperwork with your school, please do so before registering. If you are taking multiple ASC courses during one registration period, please submit your waiver class as a separate registration from your other full-rate courses for the term. You meet the Federal Income Guidelines for free or reduced-price meals if your household income falls at or below the limits on this chart for the 2023-24 School Year.
Medford School District ASC Students: As of Winter 2023, Medford School District has changed the requirements for their district to pay for their student's ASC tuition. The district-wide “free meals” status alone is not enough to qualify you as eligible for the MSD scholarship. You must file the required paperwork (link below) and be approved for MSD to pay for your credits. MSD Financial Hardship Guidelines We must confirm with MSD that you have an approved form on file with them before completing your registration. Anyone not confirmed as having an approved form on file by the time of registration will owe the balance for their ASC credits. Unpaid balances are subject to payment deadlines or your registration will be cancelled. Eagle Point School District ASC Students: This year’s district-wide “free meals” status alone is not enough to qualify you as eligible for the EPHS scholarship. You must file the required paperwork (link below) and be approved for EPHS to pay half-price for your credits. You will need to pay for the remaining balance due. We must confirm with EPHS that you have an approved form on file with them before completing your registration. Anyone not confirmed as having an approved form on file by the time of registration will owe the balance for their ASC credits. Unpaid balances are subject to payment deadlines or your registration will be cancelled. If you need to drop a class, the student must submit a written request by email to our office by the deadline listed on the registration flyer. We strongly reccomend that ASC students only allow A, B, and C grades to be transcripted. ASC grades become part of your permanent college record, so make use of withdrawals if you are struggling in your class(es). View our FAQ for more detailed information. Drop Deadlines for the 2023-24 Academic Year
Tax Information SOU does not require the disclosure of the student's Social Security Number (SSN) on the Registration Form. If you wish to claim the tuition you've paid on your taxes, you'll need to receive a 1098-T as outlined in the IRS Code section 6050S. In order to provide you with this form we'll need to collect your student's SSN for reporting qualified tuition. In order to report your student's SSN, the student should complete Part I only of the W-9S tax form by entering the student's name and SSN. This form only needs to be filled out once in the time a student is taking ASC courses. Print and return the W-9S form to SOU Business Services attn: Tina Cripe, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd, Ashland OR 97520. Please note that SOU and/or SOU Youth Programs cannot give tax advice. Please seek the assistance of your tax professional. Demographic Data Collection State law requires that SOU provide students the optional opportunity to disclose gender identity and sexual orientation information. We are also collecting data on first-generation status, ethnicity, and race for institutional research and statistical purposes. All demographic questions have "prefer not to answer" as an option, and responses we receive from you will be kept completely confidential and subject to FERPA laws. Student Privacy Much like HIPPA protects an individual's medical records, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) provides that student with certain rights with respect to the privacy of their educational records, regardless of the age of the student. Once a student registers for credit at Southern Oregon University through the ASC Program, the FERPA laws apply to their college records. SOU employees are bound to honor those rights and cannot provide unauthorized persons (including a parent) access to the student’s record such as grades, transcripts, number of credits, classes taken, charges billed, or payments made, unless the student completes and submits a FERPA Release Form to us. Therefore, to keep paperwork and parental frustration to a minimum, we request that all enrolled students take full ownership of all required ASC processes (including registration, ordering transcripts, requesting to drop or withdraw from courses if necessary, and contacting us directly with any questions). We may be extremely limited in assisting you if a parent (instead of the student) contacts us.
About the Program Advanced Southern Credit (ASC) through Southern Oregon University Pre-College Programs offers students the opportunity to begin a university education while still in high school, without traveling to a university campus. Students take SOU-approved classes offered at their high school and earn credits for that coursework at a significant savings compared to regular tuition rates. Students complete classes on site at their high school and get a "jump start" on accumlating credits toward their future degree. Have questions about ASC?
