Ultimate Golf & Footgolf Experience Ages 8-10 9:30am-12pm
Enjoy cool mornings on the greenway with two fun activities specially designed for youth. First, explore the emerging sport of footgolf, played on a specialized golf course designed for soccer balls. Then, practice your swing with traditional golf instruction that will have you teeing up for a short game in no time! Participants will learn all aspects of both games to unlock hours of approachable fun on their local golf course. This class is a partnership between West Coast Golf Academy (WCGA) and SOU Youth Programs, and will take place on Oak Knoll Golf Course in Ashland. No prior experience required, and all necessary equipment will be provided.

Carnival Creation Challenge Ages 9-12 9am-12pm
Jump on board with this thrilling engineering joy ride! Challenge yourself to build the most epic rollercoaster, or the most daring ferris wheel. Using commonly found materials you will learn about basic physics and apply that knowledge to improving the structural integrity and excitement factor of your carnival rides. From ideas, to design, to experiment, to fun! No experience needed, all supplies provided.

Kitchen FUNdamentals for Kids! Ages 10-14 9:30am-12pm
This is a hands-on experience where budding young chefs will learn kitchen basics such as safety and preparation techniques. Learn more than just how to follow a recipe, unleash your culinary creativity! You will be inspired through culinary explorations in tastes and textures. Enhance your knowledge of fruits, vegetables, herbs & spices while gaining confidence and experience in the kitchen that will last them a lifetime.

Ready, All Row! Ages 10-14 9:30am-12pm
Feel the joy of gliding swiftly across the open water on Emigrant Lake in this rowing experience! First, you’ll learn the basics of proper equipment handling and rowing terms, practice mechanics and techniques of rowing, and review water and boat safety. Then you’ll move out onto the water, as you learn to synchronize your motions for enhanced performance and speed. All students must wear a life jacket, and be prepared to responsibly pilot an individual watercraft (maintaining distancing). No prior experience required, and all necessary equipment will be provided.

Movement on the Stage Ages 10-14 9am-12pm
Can you tell a story with no words using the movement of your body across the stage? The twitch of an eyebrow, the angle of an arm, the rapid footsteps of a joyful dance, each speaks volumes. Come learn this amazing language of movement! This workshop is designed to develop a budding actor’s awareness and use of their primary tool, the body. It will emphasize creation through exercises and improvisation. Dance, crawl, tip toe, shuffle, and laugh your way through this study of movement and performance.

Scene Study & Monologues Ages 11-14 1pm-4pm
Whether you are an experienced actor interested in honing your craft or an aspiring actor interested in learning the craft, this is the workshop for you! Take your performance to the next level, train with your peers and a professionally trained performer. Develop your character, tap into your emotional center, learn to move naturally on stage, and so much more! This workshop is designed to give you crucial insight into what is actually involved in obtaining a deep emotional connection with your character’s motivation and reality. Learn to build, play, and share your very first game in no time! As an artist and storyteller, you will learn how to leverage Unity to bring your ideas to life in real-time. With limited or no coding and programming experience you can quickly become proficient enough to develop engaging high-end games! Travel the world through this culinary adventure! The secret ingredients to eating well are creativity and knowledge. Join us for this edible odyssey while learning and experiencing a new country and culture through their local food. We'll look at foods from different countries, explore flavor profiles, and create our own masterpieces. Beginning Pottery Wheel Workshop Ages 11-15 9:30am-11:30am
Join the messy art of the pottery wheel and ceramics! You’ll get to create functional bowls and cups on the pottery wheel and take them home with you at the end of the week. Experience the process of throwing, trimming, texture and glazing.

Graphic Design: Product Creation & Construction Ages 11-15 1pm-4pm
Great graphic design allows you to quickly communicate your message to the world! Take your creativity and marketing to the next level. Dive in and discuss the design process, brand identity, the meaning behind logos, and how to tell a story through product design. Introduces students to the concepts, terminology, and practice of designers. Projects include designing logos, branding materials, advertising and packaging. A familiarity with Adobe is helpful but not required. All supplies are provided.

Mini Makers: Crafts & Projects Ages 7&8 9am-12pm
Boost your creativity with exciting daily projects! This camp is packed with hands-on projects to spark your imagination and provide inspiration. Not your run-of-the-mill “make and take”, these skill-based projects give you the opportunity to assemble your own creations with confidence and ingenuity. Flex your “maker muscles” by exploring a variety of materials as you craft unique creations to wear, use, and display.

Story Book Creation: Beginning to End Ages 7-10 9am-12pm
Bring your stories to life! Learn to write, illustrate and produce a real book. Break down all the stages of a great story and grow your own narrative voice. Learn to map your plot, develop your characters, and brainstorm ways to craft the pieces of your short story together to make an unforgettable story. Using inspiration from stuffed animals, real animals, and imaginary friends, spin a story of fantasy and wonder. At the end of the class everyone goes home with their own unique handcrafted story book.

Push your creative and engineering skills to the limit, in the LEGO robotics makerspace where you will design, build, and program robots using LEGO EV3 kits. Develop your robot incorporating sensors and motors, and then program it to perform! Every day you’ll work to further develop your robot, and write new programming to compete in creative challenges. Build, code, and play your way to robot mastery! Fun for both beginners and experienced participants.

Deepen your knowledge of Lego robotics with competition level LEGO Spike Prime kits! Use Wacom tablets to bring your artistic ideas to life digitally as you learn how to translate them from concept to reality. Dive in and discover the tools for creating animation and learn basic animation concepts. Explore the high-tech, fast-moving world of animation. Launch your imagination as you explore a wide range of mediums, tools, and techniques that will help you develop your artistic style. Expand what you see as art surfaces and art materials. Learn to use color, composition, and contrast as you experiment with materials and composition. Explore textures on paintings/collages with safe household items, and how to incorporate nontraditional objects. Drawing the Figure Ages 12-15 1pm-4pm
Sharpen your drawing skills and learn to see shape in a completely new way! Drawing the human form will open up new possibilities in your artwork. You’ll learn to think about proportions, block in shapes, and understand how the parts of the human body work together to create one form. Guided by a professional artist, you will practice these techniques while drawing from live clothed models in a studio setting.

Puppet Alive! Construction and Performance Ages 12-15 1pm-4pm
Bring your character to life with the skill of your hands and your amazing imagination! From Muppets to marionettes to shadow puppets, puppets have been used to tell stories since theater began and can be found everywhere from stage to screen. Using templates, simple tools & materials, create a whimsical puppet. Through this workshop you will become a puppet maker and puppeteer! Stretch your creativity, decorate and coloring your puppet, and present your work in short, fun scenes. Come ready to move and play!

Get ready to navigate a series of dynamic sports-based challenges! Using familiar sports equipment, you’ll participate in some just-for-fun individual challenges that will inspire laughter and engage your problem-solving mind as well as your body. Imagine running an obstacle course with a balloon balanced on a racket, or trying to bounce as many ping pong balls as you can down a flight of stairs and into a bucket. Each day will have you pushing the limits of your imagination and coordination, while having some silly fun!

With the power of Adobe Photoshop, you can create seamless and believable altered photos and original illustrations of anything you can imagine! Learn how to use settings and tools to transform images, create collages, harmonize and integrate layers, and make high-quality original designs. With Photoshop skills, you open the door to a whole new realm of possibilities! This course is designed to be an introduction, no prior experience is required, all supplies are provided.

The Science of Gastronomy Ages 10-14 9:30am-12pm
Discover how a pinch of curiosity can improve your cooking while exploring the science behind cooking in the kitchen. Learn the hows and whys of butter, popcorn, gooey grilled cheese and more. There is so much chemistry involved in how different ingredients react to one another. When you understand the science behind what you’re cooking you can take that knowledge and apply it to new recipes or to tweak old recipes. Become a better chef by getting curious about why foods taste and feel the way they do. Use all five senses in this hands-on exploration!

Scratch Coding Camp Ages 9-12 9am-11am
Expand your coding knowledge by exploring the creative possibilities of computer programming with MIT’s Scratch program. You’ll create interactive stories, games, and animations. Perfect for beginners, this class teaches valuable coding skills and programming logic that will launch young coders into a world of possibilities.

Makerspace Challenge Lab Ages 9-12 9am-12pm
Time to tinker! Each day, you’ll be given a new challenge to spark your inner maker. Then, you’ll have access to an amazing array of everyday objects and random materials to get you started on your DIY design-and-build experience. The week will culminate in bringing all your ideas together into one amazing marble roller coaster! This hands-on class promises to be a fun and exciting experience for any student who likes to work with their hands and mind!

Escape Room & Riddles Ages 9-12 1pm-4pm
You and your team are locked in a room and are tasked with finding a way to escape! Do you have what it takes to deduce the solution and escape? Contribute your unique skills and knowledge to discover clues, solve puzzles, accomplish tasks, and decipher secret codes in order to escape the room! Come ready to think outside the box, laugh, and make new friends.

Power of Prints Ages 9-12 1pm-4pm
Launch your imagination as you explore the wide world of prints! Printmaking is an art form that allows you to see cause & effect in action! Stamps, wood cuts, screen prints, lithographs are all examples of the awesome art of printmaking. Learn to use color, composition, and contrast as you experiment hands-on with printing plates made from diverse materials printed on to a variety of surfaces. Get inspired as you increase your understanding of how to express emotions and tell stories through prints! You will even have the opportunity to create your own print to take home at the end of the week.

Python is the world’s fastest growing and most popular programming language used by software engineers, analysts, data scientists, and machine learning engineers alike. Versatile and incredibly useful, it helps you grasp fundamental programming concepts and allows your coding skills to really take off! This class is a great introduction to get comfortable with Python and to explore how useful and accessible it can be. No previous experience required, all supplies provided.

Builders Challenge Ages 7&8 9am-12pm
Get those gears cranking and take on the builder’s challenge! Learn about science, technology, and engineering. Each day brings a new challenge. Build a tower from straws, test bouncy through boat making, create the fastest race track, the world is your oyster! Through experimentation and creative thinking come and push the boundaries of building and design.

Rock the Wall! Ages 8-10 9am-12pm
Climb to new heights on the state of the art climbing wall in the new SOU Recreation Center! Beginners will learn all the tricks of experienced climbers: knot-tying basics, gear use, move-ment skills, and, of course, climbing techniques. Puppet Alive! Construction and Performance Ages 9-12 9am-12pm
Bring your character to life with the skill of your hands and your amazing imagination! From Muppets to marionettes to shadow puppets, puppets have been used to tell stories since theater began and can be found everywhere from stage to screen. Using templates, simple tools & materials, create a whimsical puppet. Through this workshop you will become a puppet maker and puppeteer! Stretch your creativity, decorate and coloring your puppet, and present your work in short, fun scenes. Come ready to move and play!

Clay Coral Reef Camp Ages 9-12 9:30am-11:30am
Come build your own coral reef ecosystems! Coral reefs provide habitats for organisms, protect shorelines and overall play a significant role in our world. During this camp you will begin with learning and researching about coral reefs. Then design your very own coral reef and use techniques to successfully build one out of clay! Throughout the week, students will assemble each part of their small coral reef and wrap up the week with glazing. An educational and creative yet fun filled week! Please Note: This class is held at an off-campus location.

Use Wacom tablets to bring your artistic ideas to life digitally as you learn how to translate them from concept to reality. Dive in and discover the tools for creating animation and learn basic animation concepts. Explore the high-tech, fast-moving world of animation. Design characters, animals, objects and locations that make up your world. Then bring your ideas to life digitally as you learn how to translate them from concept to reality. No experience required, all materials provided.

Acrylic Painting: Applying Color Concepts Ages 12-15 9am-12pm
Sharpen your painting skills by focusing on the way we see color and how our brains perceive it. In this class, you'll work with a professional artist to use acrylic paints to explore color and value while creating abstract and observational paintings. Bridging the space between science and art, this class will be a fun, experimental way to learn advanced concepts that will help you harness the power of color and observation in your artwork.
