Day Camps and Classes for Youth Ages 9-14
Currently, we are taking steps to continue planning for a safe, fun, and enriching Summer 2021 serving local families. Registration is set to open in March. Check back for updates.
Like many other schools and summer camps across the country, SOU Youth Programs is in the process of evaluating our programs in light of current and evolving university, regional, and state health and safety guidelines. SOU Youth Programs remains committed to trying to do as much as we are able this summer to safely meet young peoples’ need for engagement and connection.

June Classes
All of our June SBTO classes are limited to outdoor classes that are able to meet social distancing requirements.
July Classes
The July class schedule has been revised, and only the classes that are able to meet health and safety guidelines remain open to registration. These guidelines include:1) adequate social distancing 2) smaller class sizes 3) designated spaces not acccessed by anyone other than the instructor and students 4) equipment and materials designated to each student and not shared 5) PPE will be required.

Digital Animation Creation Studio Ages 9-11 9am-12pm
Explore the world of digital animation. Start off screen by drawing the compelling characters, fantastic creatures, unique objects, and other worldly locations that will make up your gaming world. Experiment with 2D concept art techniques that range from the classic to the cutting edge. Then, bring your ideas to life digitally as you learn how to translate them from concept to reality. Dive into the Flash environment, and discover the tools for creating unique animation projects while learning basic digital animation concepts. No prior experience required.

Ready, All Row! Ages 11-14 9:30am-12pm
Feel the joy of gliding swiftly across the open water on Emigrant Lake in this rowing team experience! First, you’ll learn the basics of proper equipment handling and rowing terms, practice mechanics and techniques of rowing, and review water and boat safety. Then you’ll move out onto the water, as you and your team form a unit to synchronize your motions for enhanced performance and speed. All students must pass a float test and wear a life jacket. No prior experience required, and all necessary equipment will be provided. Please Note: For the safety of our students and staff, this class may move indoors onto rowing machines if weather is inclement or air quality is poor.

Graphic Design Workshop Ages 11-14 1pm-3pm
Have you ever wondered who came up with the famous yellow smiley face or the peace sign? Great graphic design allows you to quickly communicate to the world what you are all about! Learn how to create your own unique logos as you explore the language of color, unlock the design process, and identify sophisticated visual choices. Get hands-on with Adobe Illustrator to make your personalized projects, and then choose one to walk all the way through from concept to professional final print!

Painter's Studio Ages 9-11 9am-12pm
Launch your imagination as you explore a wide range of surfaces, tools, and techniques that will help you develop a more sophisticated paint-ing style. Learn to use color, composition, and contrast as you experiment with acrylic paints on a variety of surfaces. Get inspired as you increase your understanding of how to capture the power of paint!

Video Visual FX Lab Ages 11-14 9am-12pm
Take your video projects to the next level as you learn to layer in sound and lighting effects, adding text and voice-over to video, and use a green screen to unleash the potential of your footage. Learn to use the Adobe Creative Suite to punch up your digital filmmaking with stunning special effects. Work with layers and blend modes to refine your composition and smooth transitions. Bring out your inner magician as you make objects appear, disappear, and transform. Make your video into a unique motion media work of art, where the only limitation is your imagination! No prior experience required, and all necessary equipment is provided.

Draw Your World Ages 9-11 9am-12pm
Explore drawing methods that will allow you to capture realistic sketches of the people, objects, and settings you observe around you. Capture the illusion of 3D by gaining a better understanding of use of line, principles of shading, realistic proportions, and basic perspective. Empowered with these tools, you will have what you need to make your artwork “come to life”!

LEGO Robot Rumble EV3 Ages 10-13 9am-12pm
Design, build, and program robots using LEGO EV3 kits. Develop your team robot incorporating sensors and motors, and then program it to perform! Each day you will participate in exciting activities like maze races, sumo wrestling, and custom obstacle courses. Fun for both beginners and experienced participants.

Adobe Photoshop Image Lab Ages 10-13 9am-12pm
With the power of Adobe Photoshop, you can create seamless and believable altered photos and original illustrations of anything you can imagine! Learn how to use settings and tools to transform images, create collages, harmonize and integrate layers, and make high-quality original designs.With Photoshop skills, you open the door to a whole new realm of possibilities! This course is designed to be an introduction, no prior experience is required.

Drawing the Figure Ages 12-14 1pm-3pm
Sharpen your drawing skills and learn to see shape in a completely new way! Drawing the human form is a skill that will open up new possibilities in your artwork. You’ll learn to think about proportions, block in shapes, and understand how the parts of the human body work together to create one form. Guided by a professional artist, you will practice these techniques while drawing from live clothed models in a studio setting.

Captivating Comics and Graphic Novels Ages 9-11 9am-12pm
Explore the craft of sequential art by developing your own comic book-style characters and stories. Whether they are about superheroes, space robots, or cuddly cats, comics and graphic novels are a compelling way to communicate in your own unique visual style! Build your drawing skills, develop your ability to capture fantastical characters and their unique worlds, and learn how to drive your story forward with non-stop action and intriguing plots.
