10 to 14 | Unveiling The Incas: Machu Picchu | Do you yearn for far off places and far off times? Dial into your inner History Detective and dive into the rich history and culture of Machu Picchu. Like any good budding anthropologist, you’ll immerse yourself in all the knowledge you uncover and bring history to life through theater, writing, and art. By the end of the week, you and your classmates will be fresh experts on Machu Picchu and the ways of an anthropologist. Bring your curiosity, no prior experience is needed. 10 to 14 | Frame By Frame: Stop Motion | In this camp, you will learn how to create your very own stop motion animated videos! This is an animation class where you will explore the hands-on process of stop motion through setting up characters and sets, working with LEGO®s, Clay, and other materials. This camp will give you some of the best animating tricks and all the basic skills needed to animate your own stop motion videos at home.This course is designed to be an introduction, no prior experience is required, and all supplies are provided. From futuristic civilizations to enchanted realms, ignite your creativity as you write your own tales of time travel, alien encounters, and magical realms, limited only by the bounds of your imagination! 9 to 13 | Makerspace Mixed Media | Launch your imagination as you explore a wide range of mediums, tools, and techniques that will help you develop your artistic style. Expand what you see as art surfaces and art materials. Learn to use color, composition, and contrast as you experiment with materials and composition. Explore textures on paintings/collages with safe household items, and how to incorporate nontraditional objects. Get inspired as you increase your understanding of how to transform your ideas into reality! No experience is required, all levels are welcome. 10 to 14 | Intro to Lego Robotics Spike Prime | This class is designed for students with little or no experience coding robots with Lego's Spike Prime system. Beginning with the basics, students will learn all the essentials of how to build and program a Lego robot. They will use all they've learned on the final day of class for a fun, collaborative STEM competition. 10 to 15 | Coding with Minecraft | Ready to learn coding through Minecraft? You will be guided through everything you need to know to start coding today! Come learn critical thinking skills, and important computer science concepts. This class aims to showcase the coding journey from learning about algorithms, sequencing and loops to conditionals, operators, events, variables and functions. This course is designed to be an introduction, no prior experience is required, and all supplies are provided. Over the week you will create your characters, storyboard your comic, and ultimately produce a one-of-a-kind fantastical comic book creation! By the end of the week, you will be the proud creator of a brand new comic book. No prior experience required, all materials supplied. 10 to 14 | Escape Room Mystery | Do you have what it takes to deduce the solution and escape? You and your team are locked in a room and are tasked with finding a way to escape! Contribute your unique skills and knowledge to discover clues, solve puzzles, accomplish tasks, and decipher secret codes to escape the room! At the end of the week once you’ve escaped you’ll turn the tables and will have the opportunity to create a mini-escape room for the other team! Come ready to think outside the box, laugh, and make new friends. Bring your curiosity, no prior experience is needed. 11 to 15 | Animation Station! | Use Wacom tablets to bring your artistic ideas to life digitally as you learn how to translate them from concept to reality. Dive in and discover the tools for creating animation and learn basic animation concepts. Explore the high-tech, fast-moving world of animation. Design characters, animals, objects, and locations that make up your world. Then bring your ideas to life digitally as you learn how to translate them from concept to reality. No experience is required, and all materials are provided. 10 to 14 | Printmaking: Pattern Palooza | Launch your imagination as you explore the wide world of prints! Printmaking is an art form that allows you to see cause & effect in action! Create unique patterns and images by carving linoleum blocks. Learn carving, pattern making, and placement. You will be applying ink to block, paper, and fabric while learning the printmaking processes, as well as composition. Explore color layering for dynamic finished pieces. Take home completed projects on a variety of materials! 12 to 15 | Acrylic Painting: Applying Color Concepts | Sharpen your painting skills by focusing on the way we see color and how our brains perceive it. In this class, you'll work with a professional artist to use acrylic paints to explore color and value while creating abstract and observational paintings. Bridging the space between science and art, this class will be a fun, experimental way to learn advanced concepts that will help you harness the power of color and observation in your artwork. 12 to 15 | Photoshop & Photography | With the power of Adobe Photoshop, you can create seamless and believable altered photos and original illustrations of anything you can imagine! Learn to use DSLR cameras and Photoshop. You will progress through the steps of how to use settings and tools to transform images, create collages, harmonize and integrate layers, and make high-quality original designs. With Photoshop skills, you open the door to a whole new realm of possibilities! This course is designed to be an introduction, no prior experience is required, and all supplies are provided. 9 to 14 | Character Design in Illustrator | Dive into Illustrator and learn how to take your creativity to the next level. Many types of illustration utilize character design including comic books and children’s books. By observing the colors, shapes, form, and texture in the world around you you can enrich the character you design. Using Illustrator, you can take a rough sketch or even a blank slate and take a 2D character and turn it into a unique and compelling character in no time! 10 to 14 | Young Entrepreneurs: Local Leaders | Are titles such as CEO, Owner, and Entrepreneur in your future? Are you overflowing with amazing business ideas? Join your peers, break down some of the challenges of starting a business, and deep dive into topics such as leadership, finances, and marketing. Meet some fantastic leading ladies in local business and ask them how they got to where they are and what valuable lessons they learned along the way. Bring your curiosity, no prior experience is needed. 10 to 14 | Additive Animal Sculptures | From your imagination to 3D! Make your imaginary friends a reality through sculpture. Additive sculpture is a metal framework covered with cardboard, and plaster bandages to make super solid sculpture. Add the final details when you paint their faces, fur and other personal details on. You will leave camp at the end of the week with one or more new sculpture friends. No previous experience is required, all supplies are provided. 9 to 12 | Amigurumi Story Book | Bring your stories to life! Learn to write, illustrate, and produce a real book, AND create your leading character through the amazing fiber art amigurumi! These adorable creatures will steal your heart and bring your story off the page and into real life. Break down all the stages of a great story and grow your own narrative voice. Learn to map your plot, develop your characters, and brainstorm ways to craft the pieces of your short story together to make an unforgettable story. Using yarn and crochet hooks you will learn to craft your amigurumi friend one stitch at a time. At the end of the class, everyone goes home with their own unique handcrafted storybook and Amigurumi friend. 9 to 15 | Ceramics: Handbuilding Technique | Explore your creativity in this week-long handbuilding class. Students will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques such as slab building, stamping, pinching, and coil building to create one-of-a-kind works of art. Projects include functional dishes like bowls, mugs, and plates, as well as adorable animal sculptures. Experienced students can work with the instructor to develop their own ideas. This class is great for creative students who like to make things with their hands. No prior experience is necessary, all you need is your creativity, and all other supplies are provided. Playing with mud is a messy business: closed-toe shoes are required and we recommend that students wear clothing that can get dirty. 10 to 14 | Digital Drawing | Use Wacom tablets to Master the foundations of digital drawing and create art like a pro! Learn the relationships between lines and shapes, and color theory, all while improving your sketches using digital techniques to sketch objects and scenes from life and from your imagination. No prior experience is required, and all necessary equipment is provided. Students should already have a firm grasp of programming motors, and will focus on learning how to effectively use sensors and solve challenges. They will use all they've learned on the final day of class for a fun, collaborative STEM competition. 12 to 15 | Drawing the Figure | Sharpen your drawing skills and learn to see shapes in a completely new way! Drawing the human form will open up new possibilities in your artwork. You’ll learn to think about proportions, block in shapes, and understand how the parts of the human body work together to create one form. Guided by a professional artist, you will practice these techniques while drawing from live clothed models in a studio setting. Join our professional climbing instructors as they teach you to take the climbing skills you have learned and enhance them on a state-of-the-art climbing wall in the SOU Recreation Center! In this class, you will learn next-level climbing skills: advanced knot-tying, anchor building, rescue and rappel gear use, competition level climbing techniques, and so much more! Our knowledgeable instructors will help you ascend your way to the top in this exhilarating sport. Students must have the ability to follow staff directions and participate in collaborative discussion. Please Note: Participants must be cleared by the Lead Instructor prior to joining this class. 12 to 15 | Beginning Pottery Wheel Workshop | Jump into the world of wheel-thrown ceramics in this hands-on pottery workshop! Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of using a pottery wheel: centering, pulling, and shaping clay to create functional and one-of-a-kind pots. Near the end of the week, students will learn how to trim and glaze their pieces. No prior experience is necessary, all you need is your creativity, and all other supplies are provided.
